Article #8 (profile on Mr. Eterno

Have you ever heard of a versatile individual; someone who is multitalented and the best at what he does? Well, Mr. Eterno is that guy. He is one of the best teachers that we have in Jamaica High School.
Mr. Eterno has been teaching in Jamaica High School for 21 years. He has no intentions of retiring because he loves what he does, and considers the school to be his
second home.
Mr. Eterno teaches World History and Economics. When he was young, his subjects of interest were always Social Studies. He also was a very big fan of the Mets and Rock bands and also wanted to play for either of them, but he wasn’t good at any of them so he decided to pursue his career in teaching high school students about the world that they live in.
Mr. Eterno is one of the best teachers because of his strong devotion to his students. He cares about the future of his students. He truly loves the enthusiasm his students have towards their education. The students are always willing to learn new things. “Working with teenagers lets me be a part of their growing experience, and it’s the best,” said Mr.Eterno.
The feeling of educating his students motivates him to be the best teacher that he can be. His goal is to make sure every student excels in the class and moves on to higher fields. He makes each lesson as easy and as clear as possible so that the students can understand and excel in all the tests. “The information that is gathered now could also be helpful to them in their future,” said Mr. Eterno. Mr. Eterno’s words of encouragement to his students are always,” be the best that you can be to succeed,"and “without a college degree, the odds of being successful are very slim.”
Despite the great things he does for his students, he also dedicates his time to improving the school. He is one of the teachers who opposes shutting down the school and putting another school in it. He is the Teacher’s Union leader and he has used that platform to strongly get the students the resources they need to succeed.
Every month, Mr. Eterno meets with the other teachers to discuss with them about all the main issues in the school. He writes the Board of Education Chapter News for the school once a week. However, depending on how big the issue is, he sometimes writes it more often.
Mr. Eterno is in charge of organizing the trips to the Board of Education to tell the Chancellor that Jamaica High School is a good school and our students deserve the best.
He devotes his time into the school because he wants to see it grow enormously. He also loves to see young students successful in seeking their education. This is what he works for, and this is why he tries to be the best teacher that he can be: for the success of his students and the growth of his second home.

A destructive world

We are now living in a society where the people don't feel safe while walking down busy streets of New york City and even in their schools and homes. Before walking outside or going to school, people have to pray to the heavenly father so that he keep them safe because he is the only one with such power to do so.

In this society, we are treated as if we are animals. The people are hunted down by police officers every where they go, the same police officers who are shooting 50 bullets in their hearts and still get away with it.

However, I have to say that there are some people in life who deserves to be treated like animals because that's what they are, but certainly not Sean Bell. He was one of the innocent man's out there, who was about to get married to the woman of his dreams, but this destiny was taken away from him when the police officers shot him 50 times.

The police officers who committed this crime went on a trial and was found not guilty. This verdict caused every one to be upset and angry. The people were upset as farm animals so on Friday, 25, they went on a rally to demonstrate to the police how upset they were.

This verdict aroused a lot of questions in the thoughts of people. Wasn't putting 50 bullets in some one's soul enough crime to be found guilty for? Where and when does it all stop? What severe crime does a police has to commit to be found guilty? Wasn't this crime severe enough?

It seems like the police officers will get away with every crime that they commit. There's never a wrong in their eyes, and this is a shame. It's ironic how they are to protect the people and keep them safe, but they're the ones causing harm to the people. Police officers causes the hearts of the people to rage with anger and fire; this is how much hate and animosity the people have towards the cops.

The people are supposed to feel safe near the police officers, but instead feel scared. They feel that instead of the police doing their jobs and protecting us, they are either killing us one by one, or getting us behind bars one by one. The people in society fears that the police are taking the laws in their hands, especially Jamaica High school students.

When does this stop? Where do we draw the boundary???

A passion for pure fragrance

Perfume is common in Jamaica High School. The aromatic scents of different perfumes fill the halls of the school. Students have many reasons for wearing it, depending on their mood and how they want to smell at that particular moment.

Students don't favor the same smell. They want to smell a certain way. They also don't want other students to smell the same way as they do and this is why they have their own perfume that they prefer over the other.

"My favorite perfume is Goddess by Baby Phat because it last for a long time and it smells good," said junior Bibi N. Rafik. However, Agent Wright had a mind of his own. He said,"Anything that smells good-It doesn't matter."

In the midst of bathing themselves in the strong fragrance of perfumes, the students should know the meaning of something before they use it. Do they ever ask themselves, what is perfume? Well, perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils and aroma compounds, fixatives, and solvents used to give the human body a pleasant smell.

Most popular scents for girls and boys come in a great variety and combinations. Since perfumes arrived from flowers and plants, most of the common scents for perfumes tend to smell like roses and other delicate flowers. Some of the most common perfumes are
Dream Angels Heavenly by Victoria Secret,
Britney Spears Curious for Women Perfume,
MIAMI GLOW perfume by Jennifer Lopez EDT SPRAY...
Euphoria Perfume for Women Eau De Parfum Spray...
Allure Women by Chanel 1.7 Oz Eau De Perfume...
Just Me Paris Hilton by Paris Hilton for Women...

There are also name brand perfumes that have the smell of fruits. Most of these perfumes are named after a fruit or a flower. Females tend to wear fruity scents while males tend to wear a more stronger scent. Police officer Chinnery said,"Aspen is the best, it's not too abrasive, not too bright, and it's strong enough to be recognized."

Perfume is an art designed to give the human body a pleasant smell. Other products such as lotion, deodorant, and spray serves for this main purpose, to give the human body a pleasant smell that they desire. Jamaica High School student feel so strongly about it because they could now smell several ways depending on their mood and how they feel at this particular moment.

A man with a dream,

In our society today, there are a lot of choices needed to be made but some of us don't know where to begin. Jamaica High School students are so confused that they end up either making the wrong choices or not making any at all.

There was this man with a dream that ran far beyond a thousand acres
He was a man with dignity, great courage and strength who believed in hope and in the progress
of change. He made a choice and this choice changed our lives today.

He was African American, but saw us all as brothers and sisters.
A Civil right leader, a hardworking member of society who pushed and fought against discrimination with Rosa Parks and Malcolm X. He lived his life fighting for what he believed in, which was the only thing he knew.

A husband, a reverend of a christian church and a father.
Born in 1929; Atlanta, Georgia he was raised.
He got arrested, got beaten up, degraded in value and disapproved because of his skin.
He died in 1968, but left us the message of that dream.
It was the dream of love, a dream much greater than our footsteps, running far beyond a thousand acres. He was our freedom right leader, he had a dream. His name is Martin Luther King.

Ironically, freedom is now given to us on a silver platter, but we take it for granted.
We are now living in a world where everything is taken as a joke, and nothing is taken seriously. 20-30 years back, African American didn't have much freedom as they do now, but now that they have a little bit of freedom in their hands, they tend to misuse it. They are free to do as they wish to a certain limit, but it remains that it's limitations doesn't go beyond killing an innocent baby: abortion. Who determines to take the life of an innocent soul?

Perhaps, if Jamaica High School students had followed in his footsteps, they wouldn't be in the predicament that they are in right now.

Seniors! Wake Up!

Their last year of high school should've been the easiest, but the seniors feel that this is the worst year ever. Instead of having fewer classes, they tend to have more classes. Why is that? Ask around, and they'll tell you why.
Seniors are piled up with classes that they don't need, while some of them don't even have the classes that they do need to graduate. The elective classes would've just made their transcript look good. This isn't a bad thing after all but most of the seniors feel that this is a waste of their time. "Why take extra classes when I could've been home resting?", said senior Sekanderjit Kaur.
Most of the seniors in general feel the need to take a break from school. They've been working so hard since the beginning of their freshmen year and it's only fair that they have some time "off."
However, it's not all of them who think the same way. It wouldn't bother some of them if they could've stayed the entire day in school. "We've reached that far, so why slack off?” said senior Vanessa Boucicaut" It's our last year, so why should we start being "lazy?"
Despite all these differences in viewpoints, it still remains that senioritis is one of the main issues in high school, and this causes a lot of seniors to graduate late.
Jamaica High School students neglect to know that all the four years in high school do count. If you mess up during a semester or a school year, this will cause your Grade Point Average to decline.
Needless to say, some students started messing up since the first week of their freshmen year. They didn't know any better. They actually thought that they had so much time a head of them. Now that they're trying to graduate, they can't because of so many classes that they've to make up.
It's funny how students let gym mess them up. They loathe gym for some reasons. Most of seniors has to make up so many gyms, and during the school day, they're taking gym one after the other, 3 times a day. Regretfully, they've to watch their friends graduate before them, leaving them to graduate on a later time. They cry tears of regret. If only they could've done things over.
Most seniors should open their eyes to see things in a different perspective. They should already know that for every one of your actions, there are consequences that you'll have to come across.
Students should know that their failures in the beginning will come back to hunt them at the end, when trying to graduate, and this is the reason why they're now very busy with no time for themselves.
They should always think twice before they do something, and if you caused something take full responsibility for it! Not only seniors, but also freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, whom ever tells or influences you to cut class is not your friend! Keep that in mind.

Running Track (incomplete)

Again the Indoor Girl's Cross Country Track Team came as the winner! They entered the competiton with much confidence and came out as #1. They awaited this moment for a very long time, and the day finally arrived on Sunday, February 3rd. This was a very big day for them. It wasn't a surprising news that they won because they already claimed themselves as winners.

Preparing for this competition, the athletes sacrificed a lot for their team. They put a lot of energy and effort into their daily routines. Even though their time was very limited, they used the time that they did have efficiently.
